What is Frenting?

Frenting is a booking app and payment tool designed for renting or sharing your place or things with people you already know and trust. It's designed especially for family, friends, neighbors, and communities. You always control who can view and book your listings.

How does sharing with friends work?

When you add someone as a friend on Frenting, your listings are automatically visible to them — and theirs to you. It's the simplest way to share: add friends, create a listing, and they'll see it right away. You can also invite people who aren't on Frenting yet. They'll get a link to join, and once they do, you're automatically connected.

What is a circle?

A circle is an optional grouping feature for when you want more control over who sees what. You might create a circle for a specific group — like family members who share a cabin, neighbors in your building, or a trusted group of coworkers — and then share certain listings only with that circle. Circles also let you set group-specific pricing. They're a power feature for more precise sharing, but you don't need one to get started — just add friends.

Is Frenting like Airbnb?

Not exactly. Frenting is an alternative to Airbnb and VRBO for people who want to rent their space or things to people they already know and trust. Whether you're sharing with family, neighbors, a club, or the wider community, Frenting gives you control over who can see and book your listings.

Who can see my listings?

You control who sees each listing. By default, your listings are shared with your friends on Frenting. You can also share with specific circles, make a listing available to the wider community, or send a link to anyone — even someone who hasn't joined Frenting yet. No matter how you choose to share, you stay in control. You can always approve or decline booking requests, and you can change a listing's visibility at any time.

Can I share a listing with someone who isn't my friend on Frenting?

Yes. You can always share a link directly with anyone — they don't need to be your friend, in one of your circles, or even have a Frenting account. You can also invite someone to Frenting; once they join, you'll be connected as friends.

Do I have to rent to everyone who requests a booking?

No. You're always in control. Owners can approve or decline booking requests, block off dates, and change availability or rules at any time. Frenting is designed to support flexibility and ease.

How much does Frenting cost?

It's free and easy to join Frenting as an owner or create a listing. Owners pay a simple 5% booking fee only when they receive a paid booking. If you choose to share something for free, there's no booking fee. We only make money if you're making money.

How much do renters pay per booking?

It's free to create an account and add friends. Renters pay a 3% service fee when they book a space or reserve an item to cover secure payment processing. If a listing is offered at no charge, there are no renter fees.

How do payments work?

Renter credit cards are processed securely at the time of booking and are charged only when the booking is confirmed by the owner. This helps avoid awkward follow-ups and ensures everyone is on the same page. Payments are processed securely through Stripe. Owners receive payment details and records through their Frenting dashboard and are paid out through PayPal or Venmo within 3 business days after the booking is confirmed.

Can I use Frenting for a family cabin?

Yes — many people do. Frenting works especially well for shared family cabins and lake houses where scheduling needs to be easy, expectations need to be clear, and communication can get messy. We're continuing to build tools specifically for shared family properties and other shared assets.

What kinds of places or things can I list?

People use Frenting to share cabins and vacation homes, lake houses and shared family properties, campers, RVs, and vans, boats, tools, sports equipment, outdoor gear, party supplies, and other stuff. If you only want to rent privately to people you know, Frenting likely fits.

Is Frenting available everywhere?

Frenting is available wherever private short-term rentals are allowed. Owners are responsible for complying with local laws, regulations, and community rules.

What if something goes wrong?

We encourage owners and renters to communicate directly and resolve issues respectfully. Frenting provides structure and documentation, but rental agreements are between owners and renters.

Does Frenting provide insurance?

No. Frenting does not provide insurance or guarantees. Owners are responsible for ensuring they have appropriate coverage for their place or items. Frenting does allow you to set an optional deposit, which places a hold on the renter's credit card. If the item is not returned or is damaged, you can recover the deposit amount within 7 days of the booking.
